Tripura: Tipra Motha’s Massive Rally Against Illegal Immigrants, Seeks PM Modi’s Intervention

The notification had given the state a 30-day deadline to identify and begin the deportation of illegal immigrants.

In a renewed expression of discontent, the Tipra Motha Party a key ally in Tripura’s BJP-led coalition government held a massive gathering on Saturday at Baijalbari Higher Secondary School ground in Khowai district.

The protest aimed to demand immediate action from the state government on the detection and deportation of illegal immigrants, particularly Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.

Hundreds of Tipra Motha supporters, including Ministers, MLAs, Executive Members (EMs), MDCs, and top party leaders participated in the protest. Several affiliated organisations also joined the protest, adding weight to the growing pressure on the state administration.

Addressing the media, Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma and Minister of State Brishyaketu Debbarma expressed deep dissatisfaction over the state’s inaction despite a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directive issued on May 19. The notification had given the state a 30-day deadline to identify and begin the deportation of illegal immigrants.

“The government has ignored the MHA directive. We are forced to demand Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s urgent intervention,” said Minister Animesh Debbarma.

The party warned of launching a broader state-wide agitation if their concerns continue to be neglected. Tipra Motha leaders also announced plans to submit a memorandum to the Governor, formally registering their protest.

The latest development underscores increasing tension within the ruling alliance and highlights the rising anxiety over illegal immigration, especially in Tripura’s tribal-dominated regions.
