Northeast CMs Mourn Tragic Air India Crash; 2 Air Hostesses from Manipur Among the 241 Dead

Leaders from across India, including CMs of the Northeastern states, expressed their grief and solidarity with the victims' families.
In one of the deadliest aviation disasters in India’s history, Air India flight AI-171, en route from Ahmedabad to London, tragically crashed in a residential area near Ahmedabad, Gujarat yesterday. Of the 230 passengers, 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew members on board, 241 have been confirmed dead, according to Air India. The catastrophe has left the nation and the world in mourning.
Leaders from across India, including Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states, expressed their grief and solidarity with the victims’ families.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X, writing, “I am at a loss of words to express our profound sorrow at the tragic loss of lives in today’s plane crash. On behalf of the people of Assam, we extend our deepest condolences to every family member who has lost a loved one. Every departed soul will be in our prayers today. We are in solidarity with the families and their well-wishers and pray that they find the strength to overcome this insurmountable grief.”
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu also expressed his sorrow, stating, “Deeply shocked by the tragic Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad. My heartfelt prayers are with the passengers, crew members, their families, and all those affected by this devastating incident. May strength prevail in this hour of grief.”
Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma posted, “Shocked and saddened by the tragic accident of the Air India flight going from Ahmedabad to London. Our prayers are with all the family members of passengers who were on board the aircraft.”
Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha expressed his heartbreak: “The news of the Air India plane crash at Ahmedabad airport is extremely sad and heartbreaking. Maa Tripura Sundari give strength and patience to the affected families in this difficult time.”
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma wrote, “Deeply saddened by the tragic Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad today. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives. We stand in solidarity with all affected during this heartbreaking time.”
Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio added, “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic accident involving flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, London. My thoughts and prayers are with all the affected people and their families during this difficult time.”
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang offered heartfelt condolences and mentioned, “This devastating incident has left us in shock, and our thoughts are with the victims and the emergency responders working tirelessly at the scene. Sikkim stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Gujarat and everyone impacted by this heartbreaking event.” He also mourned the loss of former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, who was among the deceased.
Among the victims were two young cabin crew members from Manipur—Kongrabailatpam Nganthoi Sharma and Lamnunthem Singson whose lives were tragically cut short in the crash. Their names have added a deeply personal note of grief for the people of Northeast.
Condolences have also poured in from across the globe, including messages from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, US President Donald Trump and King Charles III.
