‘Meghalaya Police Botched Probe’, My Daughter Is Being Framed, Alleges Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Father

Sonam's father Devi Singh has also demanded a CBI probe into the case.
In a shocking twist to the Sohra honeymoon murder case, the father of Sonam Raghuvanshi, who surrendered to Uttar Pradesh Police late last night has alleged that his daughter is the victim of a deep-rooted conspiracy and accused the Meghalaya Police of botching the investigation from the beginning.
Devi Singh has also demanded a CBI probe into the case.
“The Meghalaya government has been lying since day one. Now that the police are in trouble, they are making false claims. They are saying she murdered her husband with the help of contract killers. Why would my daughter do that? If she had such intentions, why would she even go there with Raja for their honeymoon?” he said.
Devi Singh stated that Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi‘s marriage was consensual.
Countering the police’s claim that Sonam surrendered, he said, “It’s not like that. She is innocent. She escaped from someone’s captivity and reached a dhaba in Ghazipur, UP crying and fearful. She took the dhaba owner’s phone and called her brother, Govind Singh. She came to Ghazipur by herself. I have not been able to speak to her yet.”
Expressing dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation, Singh said the family plans to approach Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand a CBI probe.
Sonam’s mother, Sangeeta, also rejected the police’s claims and said, “These are all false allegations against my daughter. A proper investigation must be conducted.”
Sonam, who had been missing for the past 14 days after her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s decomposed body was recovered in Meghalaya’s Sohra region on June 2, is currently in the custody of Uttar Pradesh Police.
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong stated that legal procedures for her transit remand to Shillong are underway, and her formal statement will be recorded.
Sonam was taken into custody after she reportedly contacted her brother at around 2:30 AM from a dhaba in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh.
3 more accused, including Sonam’s alleged lover Raju Kushwaha, have been arrested.
“4 people were arrested. Sonam has surrendered in UP, so that makes it 5. We are in the process of bringing her to Shillong for further investigation,” said East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem.
The other 4 arrestes are- Akash Rajput (19) from Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh; Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) and Raj Singh Khushwaha (21) from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Anand Kurmi (23) from Sadar district, Madhya Pradesh.
Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 in Sohra, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. On June 2, Raja’s decomposed body was recovered from a gorge near Weisawdong Falls. Despite a massive search, Sonam remained missing until today.
The breakthrough in the investigation reportedly came after a tourist guide, Albert Pde, provided a critical clue to the Meghalaya Police yesterday. He claimed to have seen the couple with 3 other Hindi-speaking tourists. Though he could not understand their conversation, his observation helped narrow the investigation.
