In a continuous effort to curb militant activities and extortion in Manipur, security forces have arrested three individuals linked to outlawed insurgent groups in a series of coordinated operations carried out over the past two days.
The operations targeted active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) across Bishnupur, Kakching, and Imphal West districts.
On June 6, security personnel apprehended Wahengbam Herojit Singh, an active member of KCP (PWG), from Wangoo Samushang in Bishnupur district. Herojit Singh was actively involved in extorting money from the public, including schools, colleges, shopkeepers, and elected representatives in the Kumbi area. Authorities seized a mobile phone and a SIM card from his possession during the operation.
In a separate raid conducted the same day, police arrested another KCP (PWG) cadre, Sagolshem James Singh, from Elangkhanpokpi Mayai Leikai in Kakching district.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police apprehended Paonam Stephen Meitei, an active member of UPPK, from Khumbong Bazar in Imphal West district.
All three individuals are currently in custody, and further investigations are underway.
