Assam Floods Fury: 6 More Die Taking Death Toll to 12, Over 6 Lakh in 20 Districts Affected

Assam Flood: Around 39,746 are taking shelter in 223 relief camps


The flood scenario in Assam continues to remain grim. Six more people have died due to floods in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll in the state to twelve. One person in each district of Hailakandi, Sribhumi, Morigaon, Cachar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia are reported to have died due to floods in the last 24 hours. There have been no deaths due to landslides in the last 24 hours.

According to latest data provided by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) 68 Revenue Circles in 20 districts of the state remains affected by this wave of floods. The affected districts are Barpeta, Lakhimpu, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Dhemaji , Nagaon, Sonitpur, Sribhumi, Darrang, Biswanath, Cachar, Sivasagar, Majuli, Morigaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Tinsukia and Karbi Anglong. Furthermore, 1 district has also reported urban floods.

A population of 6,17,136 remains affected by this new wave of floods.

Around 39,746 are taking shelter in 223 relief camps opened up by respective district administrations. Additionally, 288 Relief Distribution Canters have also been opened up.
SDRF has been deployed for carrying out rescue and relief operations.
