Tripura DM Row: YTF Locks Government Offices, Demands Action Against Gomati DM

Tripura DM Row: Protesters, wielding locks and chains and shouting slogans, demanded the DM’s immediate transfer.
Members of the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of BJP ally Tipra Motha party, locked the gates of several government offices in Gomati district today as part of a coordinated protest. The agitation was sparked by the alleged misbehavior of Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma towards Tipra Motha chief and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma over a week ago.
The center of the protest was the District Magistrate’s office in Udaipur, the district headquarters, where a large number of YTF supporters gathered, blocking entry to staff and officials. Police and paramilitary forces were quickly deployed in anticipation of unrest.
District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak and senior officials met with YTF leaders to defuse the situation, but the negotiations ultimately failed. Protesters, wielding locks and chains and shouting slogans, demanded the DM’s immediate transfer. They issued a stern warning that if no action is taken by 5 PM today, they would enforce a 12-hour district-wide shutdown on Tuesday.
YTF President Suraj Debbarma stated on Saturday that the group had given the state government a four-day ultimatum, effective May 26. “The DM’s refusal to meet our leader is not just personal disrespect but an insult to the entire Tiprasa community,” he stated, urging Chief Minister Manik Saha to act decisively.
Held despite heavy rain, the protest signals rising tensions between Tipra Motha supporters and the administration, raising serious law and order concerns for the state.
