The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates for the Lok Sabha polls which will be held in 7 phases.
While polling starts on April 11, the last day of voting will be the 19th of May. Voting will be held in a single phase in the five North eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.
Elections will be held in two phases in Manipur and Tripura whereas it will be a three-phased polling process in Assam.
As many as 90 crore electorates will exercise their franchise in the upcoming polls which is an increase of 8.4 crore voters from 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Over 10 lakh polling stations will be set up for the voting process.
20 states will vote in the first phase, 13 in the second phase, 14 in the third phase, 9 states in the fourth phase, 7 states in the fifth phase and 8 states will vote in the final phase. All the eight Northeastern states will vote in the first phase on April 11.
In the first phase, voting will take place for five constituencies in Assam, two constituencies each in Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and one constituency each in Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura.
Five more constituencies in Assam and one each in Manipur and Tripura will vote in the second phase on April 18. Assam is the lone Northeastern state which will vote in the third phase on April 23rd.
