This gives absolute majority to Rio’s government
In a significant political development in Nagaland and a big boost to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, all 7 NCP MLAs in the state today joined the ruling NDPP giving absolute majority to Rio’s government. Now the Rio-led NDPP government’s tally has gone up to 32 from 25 in the 60-member Nagaland Assembly.
Announcing the merger, Minister K G Kenye said, “We have been joined by a few more friends into the NDPP party fold this evening. You are aware that we have nine groups in the State Assembly this time, and out of that, the Nationalist Congress Party, NCP party, is the third largest group, with seven members in the State Assembly, the 14 House. So this evening, they have made a pleasant announcement and submitted their merger application to the honourable speaker. So, the speaker has been kind enough to activate all his stops and have formally accepted their submission for full-time merger into the NDPP party” said Kenye.
He exuded hope that with this merger the party will be able to serve the people of this state with a larger number, strengthening the hands of Chief Minister, Dr Neiphui Rio, and the present government.
On query whether this will change the dynamics, especially in the seat-sharing of the NDPP-BJP, Kenye said, there is no permanent ratio as an arrangement with their coalition partners and affirmed that the seat sharing with BJP is effective for a duration of five years, for this period of 14th House.
Kenye also stated the reshuffling of the of the Ministries in the state is a prerogative of the Chief Minister and will be known in due course of time.
