Sikkim’s 50th Statehood Day Today; PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate and Lay Foundation of Key Projects in Sikkim

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple development projects in Sikkim today, marking the state’s 50th Statehood Day. A grand celebration is being organised at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok under the theme “Sikkim@50: Where Progress Meets Purpose and Nature Nurtures Growth.”

The Prime Minister who landed in Bagdogra just a short while back and will reach Gangtok around 10 AM, will unveil a mix of infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, and cultural initiatives that reflect the state’s evolving priorities and its commitment to sustainable growth.

Here is the full list of projects to be inaugurated by the PM:

  1. 500-Bedded District Hospital at Namchi
    – A state-of-the-art healthcare facility to serve South Sikkim with modern medical infrastructure.
  2. Swarna Jayanti Maitreya Manjari (at White Hall, Ridge Park)
    – A commemorative structure celebrating Sikkim’s golden jubilee of statehood.
  3. Passenger Ropeway at Pelling to Sangacholing Monastery
    – A new ropeway aimed at boosting religious and eco-tourism in West Sikkim.
  4. Gaushala at Mamring
    – A community-based shelter for cows, promoting animal welfare and rural sustainability.
  5. Statue of Atal Bihari Vajpayee
    – A tribute to the former Prime Minister, symbolizing his vision and contributions to the nation.

Projects for Foundation Stone Laying:

  1. District Hospital at Pakyong
    – Another major healthcare initiative to improve access to quality medical services in East Sikkim.
  2. Visitor Experience Centre at Nathula
    – A tourism infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the visitor experience at the Indo-China border.
  3. Conversion of Singshore Bridge into a Glass Skywalk
    – Asia’s second-highest suspension bridge to be transformed into a major tourist attraction.
  4. Bhaleydunga Skywalk Project
    – A thrilling skywalk planned in the scenic Bhaleydunga area, catering to adventure tourism.
  5. Working Women’s Hostel at Gangtok (Tadong)
    – A secure and affordable accommodation facility for women employed in the city.
  6. Swarna Jayanti Convention Centre at Namli
    – A world-class infrastructure and events, enhancing Gangtok’s urban infrastructure.
  7. Swarna Jayanti Sports and Cultural Centre (near Gangtok)
    – A multipurpose facility promoting both traditional arts and modern sports, empowering local youth.
