Meghalaya Set To Host National Games In 2027: CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya CM addressed the matter directly, stating, “Meghalaya is the host state for the National Games."

Meghalaya will be exclusively hosting the 39th National Games in 2027, with all major events, including the opening and closing ceremonies, set to take place within the state.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma addressed the matter directly, stating, “Meghalaya is the host state for the National Games. There is no other state that is hosting it.”

Over 25 sporting disciplines will be conducted in Meghalaya alone, the CM said, dismissing reports of a joint hosting arrangement with other northeastern states. He, however, acknowledged that a few disciplines may be symbolically allocated to neighbouring states to promote inclusivity and regional unity.

In a forward-looking move, the state has committed to making the National Games plastic-free. This initiative aims to tackle environmental challenges typically associated with large events, particularly the waste generated by packaged goods, synthetic gear, and logistical materials.

With thousands of athletes and officials expected to converge on Meghalaya, the administration is actively planning sustainable waste management strategies.

As preparations gain momentum, Meghalaya stands poised to not only showcase sporting excellence but also lead by example in promoting environmental responsibility and regional collaboration.
