Assam Police Arrested 65 Persons For Anti-National Comments and Posts in Social Media

The Assam Police have been taking strict action against individuals making seditious statements online.

Continuing its crackdown on anti-national elements, Assam Police on Saturday arrested one more person from the Gossaigaon area for allegedly indulging in “anti-national” activities.

The arrested person has been identified as Joynal Abedin.

With this recent arrest, state police have arrested a total of 65 individuals for making pro-Pakistan posts on social media.

The arrest comes amid heightened vigilance by authorities to maintain communal harmony following Operation Sindoor and the recent conflict Pakistan.

Taking to social media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “#Update on Crackdown against anti-national elements | 15.00hrs of 17.05 @KokrajharPolice arrested Joynal Abedin from Gossaigaon for supporting Pakistan on social media 65 Anti-nationals arrested till now.”

The Assam Police have been taking strict action against individuals making seditious statements online.

Notably, four more persons were apprehended on Friday for allegedly supporting Pakistan on social media.

AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was earlier arrested on sedition charges for allegedly “defending” Pakistan and its complicity in the Pahalgam attack. After he secured bail in that case, he was held under the stringent National Security Act.
