Union Minister Rajiv Singh, Tripura CM Saha Inaugurates Rs 23 Cr Milk Plant to Boost Self-Reliance in Dairy Sector

It is expected to reduce the state's dependence on milk imports and strengthen the rural economy by empowering local milk producers.

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and Minister of State SP Singh Baghel, inaugurated a 40,000 litres per day (TLPD) milk processing plant of Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd at Bamutia in West Tripura district on Saturday.

The facility, developed at a cost of approximately Rs. 23 crore with financial support from the central and state governments, aims to significantly enhance Tripura’s dairy infrastructure. It is expected to reduce the state’s dependence on milk imports and strengthen the rural economy by empowering local milk producers.

Speaking at the event, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed about the central government’s commitment to making Tripura self-sufficient in milk and fish production. He assured full support from the Centre in realising this goal, saying, “The Government of India believes Tripura has the resources and potential to achieve self-reliance in the dairy and fisheries sectors. I have assured the Chief Minister of complete cooperation.”

Rajiv Ranjan Singh also announced that a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries would visit Tripura in June, based on the Chief Minister’s availability, to discuss and outline a roadmap for achieving this vision.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, addressing the gathering, said that the state government is working in a mission mode to make Tripura self-sufficient in milk, egg, fish, and meat production within the next five years.
