Arunachal Cabinet Holds Historic Meeting at Kibithu, Just 5 Km from Indo-China Border; Clears Welfare Projects Worth Rs 100 Cr

In a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening government outreach in remote border regions, the Arunachal Pradesh government held its Cabinet Aapke Dwar meeting at Kibithu in Anjaw district today with projects worth Rs 100 crore. Located just 5 kilometres from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, Kibithu is the last circle headquarters of the district and one of the easternmost inhabited locations in India.

The cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and other ministers, marks the first-ever cabinet session in Anjaw district, underlining the state’s commitment to inclusive governance and regional development.

Minister Mama Natung informed the media that the cabinet approved a series of welfare and development projects worth over Rs 100 crore, focusing on local infrastructure, public services, and connectivity. Minister Nyato Dukom further highlighted key administrative reforms in the Hydro Power Department to accelerate Arunachal’s energy goals.

Sharing updates on X, CM Khandu wrote, “Today’s Cabinet meeting at Kibithoo marked a historic push for Hydropower Development in Arunachal Pradesh.”

Major Hydropower Highlights:

  • Formation of NEEPCO Arunachal Hydro Power Corporation Ltd, a joint venture between the state government and NEEPCO, to implement five hydroelectric projects in the Shi-Yomi district.
  • Amendment to the LADF policy, mandating an additional 1% free power to benefit project-affected communities.
  • Revival of the 144 MW Gongri Hydroelectric Project under the Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Policy, 2025.

Development Initiatives for Anjaw:

CM Khandu also announced a special development package for Anjaw as part of the Cabinet Aapke Dwar initiative, with a strong focus on infrastructure, heritage, and tourism:

  • Upgradation of Walong CO HQ to EAC HQ
  • Launch of the Sun Rise Festival at Kibithoo
  • Road and township development in Hawai, Hayuliang, and Walong
  • Enhanced water supply systems for Hawai and Hayuliang
  • Development of Hu-Tung Gram, sacred to the Mishmi tribe
  • 2 MW Ampani Hydro Project
  • Establishment of a War Memorial and Museum at Namti

The meeting at Kibithu reflects a strategic and people-centric approach to governance, reinforcing the state’s presence and commitment at the nation’s frontier.
