The Assam Police have arrested 3 more individuals for allegedly expressing pro-Pakistan opinions on social media platforms, taking the total number of arrests across the state to 56.
The 3 arrested individuals have been identified as- Lalchan Ali from Dhubri district, Samir Ali from Lakhimpur, and Rakib Hussain from Karbi Anglong district, said CM sarma on a X post.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated that any act of sympathising with the enemy amounts to treason and will be dealt with firmly.
“Any act of sympathising with the enemy is an act of treason. Cracking down on anti-national elements, @Dhubri_Police arrested Lalchan Ali
@lakhimpurpolice arrested Samir Ali @karbianglongpol arrested Rakib Hussain 56 such elements are now behind bars,” the Chief Minister wrote.
These arrests are part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on individuals accused of supporting Pakistan, especially after the recent escalation of tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
The first arrest came on April 25, when Aminul Islam, an MLA of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) from Dhing constituency was arrested by the Assam Police Crime Branch after his highly controversial remarks alleging the involvement of the central government in recent and past terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
The state government continues to send a strong message of zero tolerance towards activities that undermine India’s sovereignty and national unity.
Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had issued a stern warning to those acting against national interest and said, “I want to warn everyone and all anti-India forces, any attempt to support Pakistan, whether directly or indirectly, from Assam will not be tolerated. I have directed Assam Police to take stringent action against such acts.”
