Meghalaya Governor Hosts Special Interfaith Meeting to Foster Unity Amid Operation Sindoor

Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar held a special interfaith meeting at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, on Saturday, bringing together representatives from various faiths and communities to express solidarity with the nation’s ongoing efforts under Operation Sindoor. The meeting emphasised unity, mutual respect, and collective responsibility amid the country’s ongoing challenges.
The Governor called on all religious leaders in the state to rise above differences and reaffirm their commitment to peace and national unity. Prominent figures at the meeting included Nabha Bhattacharya, Vice President of the Meghalaya All Faiths Forum and President of the Central Pooja Committee, Rev. Ellizer N. Sangma from the Garo Baptist Church, Rev. GPL Gadew from the Presbyterian Church, Ganesh Dkhar from Seng Khasi, Sayidullah Nongrum, President of the Meghalaya Muslim Forum, Dr. Shngain Pyrbot, General Secretary of Seinraij Shillong, Father Staibok Warjri from the Catholic community, along with representatives from the Ramakrishna Mission, the Archdiocese of Shillong, and other faith groups.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma joined the meeting virtually from Delhi, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong. Cabinet Ministers Rakkam A. Sangma (Education) and A.T. Mondal (Power) participated in person, alongside Chief Secretary Donald Wahlang, who addressed the gathering.
In his speech, Governor Vijayashankar condemned all forms of terrorism and praised the spiritual leaders for their unwavering support. He highlighted the critical role of faith leaders in fostering peace and unity during times of crisis, urging citizens to uphold the democratic values that form the foundation of the nation. He assured that the state had adequate measures in place to maintain peace and law and order, reaffirming that India’s strength lies in its diversity and inclusivity.
