To formalise this move, the Assam Legislative Assembly will hold a one-day special session next month to officially recognise the decision.

The Assam Cabinet on May 10 approved the renaming of Dibrugarh Airport as Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Airport in honour of the legendary musician and Bharat Ratna awardee. To formalise this move, the Assam Legislative Assembly will hold a one-day special session next month to officially recognise the decision, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The state cabinet also cleared the Assam Tea Garden Workers’ Financial Assistance Scheme, 2025, aimed at supporting nearly seven lakh tea garden workers as a mark of gratitude in the 200th year of Assam’s tea industry. Under this scheme, both permanent and temporary workers will receive a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 5,000, fulfilling a promise made in the state budget.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the Eti Koli Duti Paat scheme, which will provide a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 to each permanent and temporary tea garden worker in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Assam tea.

In another key decision, the cabinet greenlit the Assam Electronics Components Manufacturing Top-Up Scheme, 2025, offering a 60% top-up on the incentive provided by the Government of India for electronics components manufacturing, positioning Assam as a potential hub for this sector.

The council of ministers also approved the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Jibon Prerna Scheme, which is set to roll out from October 2025. This scheme will provide a monthly financial support of Rs. 2,500 for one year to eligible graduates who are permanent residents of the state. Research scholars from public universities in Assam will receive a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 20,000, while specially-abled scholars will receive Rs. 40,000.

Additionally, the cabinet approved a reduction in the registration fees for cooperative societies, bringing it down from 1% to 0.5% of their proposed authorized share capital, making it more affordable for new cooperatives to register.

In a move aimed at providing financial relief to workers, the cabinet has decided to grant 50% of the admissible house rent allowance to 13,822 muster roll, casual, and fixed-pay workers in the state.

Furthermore, the government has extended the Apun Ghar and Apun Vahan schemes to both regular and contractual employees of state public sector undertakings and the state government, enhancing their access to affordable housing and vehicle loans.
