The Governor assured the students of a thorough review of their concerns in consultation with relevant authorities.
Prof. Th. Meera Devi, Dean (Academics) of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, and Dr. Laishram Trinity Meetei, Sub-Dean (Students Affairs), resigned from their positions on May 8, following a large-scale protest by MBBS students demanding their removal.
The students started the protest on May 7, calling for the immediate dismissal of the Director, Dean, and Sub-Dean, alleging that the Director had used abusive and threatening language toward them. According to protesters, the Director made highly inappropriate remarks, allegedly telling students to “dance naked,” “commit suicide,” or that he would “hang them,” sparking widespread outrage within the campus.
Meanwhile, a group of protesting students met with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, today and submitted a memorandum outlining their grievances. The Governor assured the students of a thorough review of their concerns in consultation with relevant authorities. He said that the safety, academic interests, and welfare of the students remain a priority and appealed to them to remain focused on their studies while maintaining peace on the campus.
