RIMS Imphal MBBS Students Continue Protests for 2nd Day, Demand Director’s Resignation
First Published: 8th May, 2025 19:57 IST
According to the students, the Director admitted to using inappropriate language, which triggered the ongoing protest.
The protest by MBBS students at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal entered its second day on May 8, with 800 to 900 students continuing their agitation on campus. The students have boycotted all academic activities, bringing classes to a complete standstill.
Earlier in the day, the Dean of the Medical College met with the protesting students, extending an apology on behalf of the administration and proposing a meeting with the Director. According to the students, the Director admitted to using inappropriate language, which triggered the ongoing protest.
However, the apology and admission of misconduct have not deterred the students from their primary demand the immediate resignation of the Director.
Later in the day, representatives of the student body met with the Secretary to the Governor of Manipur, where they reiterated their demand for the Director’s removal. They have also scheduled a meeting with the Governor tomorrow, during which they plan to submit a memorandum outlining their grievances and demands.
The students have stated that they will continue their protest until their demand for the Director’s resignation is met, stating that they are not willing to compromise on this core issue.
