It is alleged that the DGM of OIL, Duliajan used Rs 3.73 lakh from the bribe to purchase gold coins from a shop in Noida
The Deputy General Manager of Oil India Limited (OIL), Duliajan in Assam, and the Deputy General Manager (Sales & Marketing) of a Noida-based private company have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh in exchange for facilitating contract awards and bill clearances.
The CBI registered a case on May 3, 2025, against 4 accused, including the OIL official, the Managing Director and DGM of the private company, the company itself, and unknown public servants.
The accused had been indulging in corrupt and illegal activities of obtaining undue advantages by manipulating the award of contracts and clearance of bills, resulting in illegal personal gains and financial losses to the Union Exchequer.
According to the CBI, the DGM of OIL, Duliajan had demanded 70 grams of gold ornaments for himself and another unknown public servant in exchange for awarding a contract.
When the private party expressed inability to procure gold, a cash bribe of Rs 7 lakh was arranged instead by the company’s Managing Director.
It is alleged that the DGM of OIL, Duliajan used Rs 3.73 lakh from the bribe to purchase gold coins from a shop in Noida and retained the remaining Rs 3.34 lakh in cash.
Acting swiftly, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed with unspent cash and documents related to the gold purchase.
Both the Deputy General Manager (Sales & Marketing) of a Noida-based private company and the DGM of OIL, Duliajan were arrested and will be produced before the Special CBI Court in Ghaziabad today.
Search operations were also carried out at multiple locations including Delhi, Noida, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia leading to the recovery of gold jewellery, more than Rs 30 lakh in cash from individuals, mobile phones, and several incriminating documents.
