In a significant blow to extortion rings operating in Manipur, security forces have arrested three militants linked to banned outfits, seizing firearms, ammunition, and critical documents in the process. The arrests were part of a continued crackdown by the security forces, targeting militant groups involved in extortion activities across the state.

On Sunday, two active cadres of proscribed outfits were arrested in the Mayang Imphal area under Mayang Imphal Police Station, Imphal West District. The arrested individuals were identified as Longjam Bishochandra Meitei, also known as Bungo, of KCP (PWG), and Chirom Roshan Meitei, also known as Thomas, of KYKL (SOREPA). Both were detained from the locality of Mayang Imphal Heigum Yangbi. During their arrest, security forces seized two mobile phones from their possession.

In a separate operation on Saturday, security forces arrested another militant, Lairenlakpam Dineshchandra Singh, an active member of KCP (Apunba). He was apprehended in the Yairipok Laimanai area under Andro Police Station, Imphal East District. Singh, who was directly involved in extortion activities, was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, five live rounds of ammunition, a mobile phone, and several identity documents, including a PAN card, driving license, Aadhaar card, ATM card, and voter ID card.
