He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to positioning the region as a vital growth engine for India.
Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, held a series of high-level meetings in Mumbai on Wednesday with some of India’s leading industrialists, including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.
These strategic engagements are part of the lead-up to the Rising Northeast Investment Summit 2025, scheduled to take place on the 23rd and 24th of May at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Organized by the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region in collaboration with FICCI, the Summit aims to attract significant investments into the eight Northeastern states by connecting stakeholders, investors, and policymakers.
Accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry, Scindia presented an ambitious roadmap for the Northeast, highlighting the untapped potential in sectors such as agro-based industries, textiles, and tourism. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to positioning the region as a vital growth engine for India.
“The goal is to integrate the eight states into one unified development goal as India’s growth engine,” said Scindia. He also emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in fostering sustainable and inclusive development across the region.
Key initiatives shared during the discussions included the formation of a High-Level Task Force comprising the Chief Ministers of all eight Northeastern states and the establishment of dedicated Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) in each state. These IPAs will act as facilitators, ensuring seamless coordination between state governments and private investors.
The Rising Northeast Investment Summit 2025 is set to further this momentum. It will bring together top policymakers, business leaders, global and domestic investors, and ecosystem stakeholders on one platform. The event will include sector-specific sessions and high-level deliberations aimed at unlocking economic opportunities and fostering collaborative growth.
A key feature of the summit will be a dedicated Exhibition Pavilion, showcasing the unique investment potential of each Northeastern state. The pavilion will also highlight Central Government initiatives and feature exhibits by innovative startups, reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit of the region.
Sectoral sessions will focus on promising areas such as:
- Agri, Food Processing & Allied Sectors
- IT & ITES
- Textiles, Handloom & Handicrafts
- Tourism & Hospitality
- Entertainment and Sports
- Energy
- Education & Skill Development
- Infrastructure & Logistics
- Healthcare
The Ministry’s comprehensive efforts, led by Scindia, signal a strong push towards transforming the Northeast into a dynamic economic powerhouse, poised to contribute significantly to India’s growth story.
