Assam Police have arrested a total of 27 individuals so far for making pro-Pakistan or anti-national posts on social media.
The arrests come amid heightened vigilance by authorities to maintain communal harmony following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Taking to social media, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that three latest arrests have been made in this regard taking the total number of arrests to 27.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dark King from Kokrajhar, Abdul Mukit from Sribhumi and Tahib Ali from Tamulpur.
The Assam Police have been taking strict action against individuals making seditious statements online.
The first arrest came on April 25, when Aminul Islam, an MLA of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) from Dhing constituency was arrested by the Assam Police Crime Branch after his highly controversial remarks alleging the involvement of the central government in recent and past terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. He was sent to police custody for 4 days on April 26.
Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had issued a stern warning to those acting against national interest and said, “I want to warn everyone and all anti-India forces, any attempt to support Pakistan, whether directly or indirectly, from Assam will not be tolerated. I have directed Assam Police to take stringent action against such acts.”
The Assam government continues to monitor and take firm action against activities that pose a threat to national integrity and unity.
