“Our Lives Matter Too…: Post Pahalgam Attack, Pradyot Debbarma Urges Centre to Respond Sternly to Bangladesh Too

Supporting the central govt's reaction to Pahalgam attack but called for equal seriousness when threats arise along India's eastern border.

After the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Tipra Motha founder and Tripura Royal Scion Pradyot Debbarma has urged the Centre to respond with equal seriousness and sternness to any threat from Bangladesh as it does with Pakistan.

While supporting the central government’s reaction to the Pahalgam attack but called for equal seriousness when threats arise along India’s eastern border. “I support the Centre’s strong action against Pakistan, but similar incidents or dangers from the east must be met with the same resolve. The value of a life lost in the east is no less than one lost in the north or west. We, too, are proud Indians,” he said.

Debbarma expressed his concern about a growing threat from both Pakistan and Bangladesh. “I fear India could be encircled by Pakistan from the west and Bangladesh from the east. While I fully support the government’s response after the Pahalgam incident, I believe similar steps should be taken when such threats emerge in East India. Our lives matter equally, and the hostility from Bangladesh should not be taken lightly.”

He also criticised the perception that Delhi’s proximity to Pakistan grants more importance to threats from the Western front. “Just because Delhi is nearer to Pakistan doesn’t mean people in the east are any less Indian. We expect the same strength and seriousness in handling Bangladesh.”

Referring to recent reports, Debbarma raised alarms over the growing Chinese and Pakistani influence in Bangladesh. “Md. Yunus from Bangladesh’s interim government has acknowledged that China is setting up an airbase in North Bengal. An ISI general recently visited Bangladesh, and such developments directly endanger Tripura. Bangladesh cannot be seen as a friendly nation under these circumstances.”

The Tripura Royal Scion urged India to stop its cricketing relations with Bangladesh. Debbarma urged the Indian government to adopt a consistent and firm policy towards both neighbouring nations when it comes to national security.

Debbarma said, “We must take a clear position. Vote-bank politics should not influence our response to threats. Indian Muslims are people like Shah Rukh Khan, Mohammad Shami, and Mohammad Rafi not figures like Mohammad Yunus or Osama bin Laden. We should not continue to play cricket with Pakistan or Bangladesh. When the Bangladesh cricket team visits India, we offer them five-star hospitality. Instead, we should treat them like we treat Pakistan’s team.”

He also reminded the nation of the historical roots of the conflict, mentioning areas like Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, and Chattogram which were once part of Tripura. “Today, we must think about why our people were evicted from their land. And we must be united to understand who thinks of us as the enemy,” he said.
