IAS officer Rajesh Agarwal, who has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Ministry of Commerce is also from Manipur
At a time when Manipur continues to grapple with deep unrest and pain for nearly two years, amid ongoing ethnic conflict, a moment of good news has emerged. Two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from the state- one from the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar community and the other from the Mao Naga community have been appointed as secretaries in the Ministry of Finance by the Union government.
Notably, this is for the first time that Scheduled Tribe (ST) officers from the Northeast have been named to such top positions in the Finance Ministry.
The appointments are part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle that took place last week, involving 16 other senior IAS officers across key ministries, including commerce and civil aviation.
Vumlunmang Vualnam, a 1992 batch Manipur cadre officer and a member of the Paite group within the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar community, has been appointed as the new Expenditure Secretary.
Meanwhile, K. Moses Chalai, a 1990 batch IAS officer from the Mao Naga community, has been named Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises under the Ministry of Finance.
Apart from Vualnam and Chalai, IAS officer Rajesh Agarwal, who has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Ministry of Commerce is also from Manipur.
