Beware of That Job Ad. Sikkim Woman Loses Rs 6 Lakh to Fake Work-From-Home Job Offer

After realising that the job was fake and she had been cheated, the woman immediately filed a complaint with the police.
A 35-year-old woman from Sikkim’s Mangan district has fallen victim to an online job scam and lost a total of Rs. 6 lakh. The incident happened between April 8 and April 15, when she came across a work-from-home job offer posted on social media platform Facebook.
Believing the offer to be genuine, she contacted the advertisers. The scammers convinced her to transfer money by promising high returns and attractive earnings in exchange for completing simple tasks. Trusting their claims, she sent multiple payments that added up to Rs. 6 lakh.
After realising that the job was fake and she had been cheated, the woman immediately filed a complaint with the police.
Based on her report, Sadar Police Station registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and arrest the culprits involved in the scam.
Authorities have also advised the public to stay cautious while responding to online job offers and to verify the authenticity of such advertisements before making any financial transactions.
