An alleged case of attempted extortion has been reported in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, raising concerns among locals and officials. According to sources, unidentified gunmen reportedly demanded money from the Programme Implementation Unit (PIU) of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Haflong.

The incident occurred on Wednesday when the gunmen approached the PIU NHAI office, located in a busy area of Haflong.

It needs to be mentioned that, Dima Hasao has been calm, free from any violence or such criminal activities for nine years now. The recent development has alarmed the peace-loving residents and visitors alike. The district has seen a surge in tourism and development efforts following years of stability, but this incident has now cast a shadow of fear.
