“Gandhis are minting money, ordinary Congress workers deprived”: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said,"My question is how Rahul Gandhi has learnt business tricks to convert Rs 50 lakhs into Rs 2000 crores."
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday slammed the Gandhi family over the National Herald money laundering case, questioning how Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi managed to convert Rs 50 lakhs into Rs 2000 crores.
Sarma alleged that the Gandhi family took over the National Herald company “fraudulently” and made profits despite it being a Section 19 company under the Companies Act, which prohibits profit-making.
“What is the case? Initially, the National Herald company had a capital of Rs 50 lakhs. After the company was taken over ‘fraudulently’ by the Gandhi family, its net worth suddenly increased to Rs 2000 crores. It is a section 19 company under which profit is prohibited, like our Cancer Foundation, but they were making profits. Rahul Gandhi often accuses Adani and Ambani of how they have made so much money. My question is how, being from a political family, he has learnt business tricks to convert Rs 50 lakhs into Rs 2000 crores. Tell us the same formula so that I can do this for Assam,” Sarma told reporters.
Expressing sympathy for ordinary Congress workers, Sarma stated they are being deprived while the Gandhis are “minting money”. He emphasised that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi should appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and prove their innocence.
The Chief Minister said, “Congress people should demand that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi give back the Rs 2000 crore to the party. Have you seen the condition of the Congress party offices? At least Rs 2000 crore have been given to the Congress to build party offices. People don’t realise that Gandhis are minting money, but ordinary Congress people are being deprived. I feel pity for them. I have a whole lot of sympathy for the Congress people who have been working on the ground. It is the duty of Rahul Gandhi, who always says that I do not like corruption, to fight against corruption. Now, both the mother and son should appear before the ED and prove their innocence.”
Earlier today, Congress launched nationwide protests against the central government and investigative agencies following the Enforcement Directorate’s move to file charge sheets against senior party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case.
On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a prosecution complaint (chargesheet) against top Congressmen Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald money laundering case. The chargesheet also names Congress leader Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, and others, including several firms.
The matter has been listed for arguments on cognisance in the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on April 25. The prosecution complaint has been filed under Sections 44 and 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, for the offence of money laundering, as defined under Section 3, read with Section 70, and punishable under Section 4 of the PMLA, 2002.
