North Sikkim Registers Another Single Day High in Tourist Footfalls at Over 4000

Number of tourist vehicles entering North Sikkim has gone up to 817 post the GLOF
After seeing a significant dip in tourist footfalls post the devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) of 2023, North Sikkim that has popular tourist spots like the Gurudongmar Lake, Yumthang Valley, Lachen and Lachung, is seeing new record highs in tourist flow almost every other day.
Lachen and Lachung were among the worst affected areas because of the GLOF.
After seeing a record 3,564 tourists on April 12, North Sikkim recorded another new high with 4,151 visiting the region on April 14.
According to data released by the Permit Cell, this is the highest single-day footfall since the devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) of 2023.
Of the total 4,151, domestic tourists who registered online included 2,044 males, 1,502 females, and 358 children, traveling in 720 vehicles.
The offline booking numbers were 180 males, 44 females, and 11 children, with 95 vehicles, all domestic tourists.
Foreign tourist arrivals for the day stood at 6 males and 6 females, with 2 vehicles.
As such, the total number of tourist vehicles entering North Sikkim has gone up to 817 post the GLOF.
