5 Guwahati Schools to Face Action After Pass Percentage Drops to Below 25% in HSLC Exams 2025

The Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (Metro) District Circle, Assam has issued show cause notices to the headmasters and principals of five government high schools in Guwahati after their students fared very poorly in the HSLC or Class 10 exams with pass percentage dropping to below 25%.
The schools in question are Barsojai High School, Maligaon High School, NPME High School, Pilingkata High School, and Dispur Government High School.
In the notice issued on Friday, Dipika Choudhury, AES, Inspector of Schools (Kamrup Metro), expressed serious concern over the dismal performance of these schools. She stated that the results not only indicate a lack of commitment but also reflect administrative and supervisory lapses by the heads of the institutions.
“This is a serious matter that discourages the student community. You are hereby asked to show cause as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against you,” reads the notice. The authorities have directed the headmasters and principals to submit a detailed explanation within five days of receiving the notice. Failure to respond within the given timeframe will invite necessary disciplinary measures.
Meanwhile, the Assam High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) results for 2025, declared by the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) earlier today, showed a significant decline in the overall pass percentage. The state recorded a 63.98% pass rate this year, a sharp fall from last year’s 75.7%.
Despite the dip, students from some schools have shown outstanding performance. Amishi Saikia of Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School in Jorhat topped the state with 591 marks (98.50%). Saptarswa Bordoloi of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati, Guwahati, secured the second position with 590 marks (98.33%), while Anirban Borgohain, also from Pragya Academy, came third with 589 marks (98.17%).
According to ASSEB, a total of 89,041 students secured First Division, 1,35,568 passed with Second Division, and 45,862 achieved Third Division.
