Md Yunus’s Spiteful NE ‘Landlocked’ Remark: “Break Bangladesh”, Says Tripura Royal Scion Pradyot Debbarma

Assam CM hits back at Yunus, suggests robust rail, road network around Chicken Neck
Tripura’s vocal tribal leader and royal scion Pradyut Deb Barman has suggested that India should snatch access to the sea by breaking up Bangladesh and integrate the Chittagong Hill Tracts inhabited by Tripuri, Garo, Khasi and Chakma people who, in any case, want to join India.
“Rather than spending billions on innovative and challenging engineering ideas we might as well break up Bangladesh and have our own access to the sea . The Chittagong hill tracks were always inhabited by indigenous tribes which always wanted to be part of india since 1947 . There are lakhs and lakhs of Tripuri , Garo ,Khasi and Chakma people which reside in Bangladesh in terrible conditions in their traditional lands . This should be utilised for our national interest and for their well being,” Debbarma wrote in response to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s stern retort to Mohammed Yunus’s comments in Beijing.
The head of Bangladesh’s interim government, Mohammed Yunus extended an open invitation to China to expand its interests along Northeast India. Yunus had said during his China visit last week that Northeast India is landlocked, have no access to the sea and cannot do anything because Bangladesh, he said, was the guardian of the seas.
Lambasting the so- called head of the Bangladesh government Yunus for his remarks, Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said there is need to explore the possibility of building routes under the rivers to connect the northeast with the Indian mainland although this might pose engineering challenges. Dr sarma said Yunus’s invitation to China to come and open shop in Bangladesh, right on the border with the Siliguri corridor, indicates a conspiratorial agenda pursued for long by vested interests inimical to India.
Taking to X, CM Sarma wrote: “The statement made by Md Younis of Bangladesh so called interim Government referring to the seven sister states of Northeast India as landlocked and positioning Bangladesh as their guardian of ocean access, is offensive and strongly condemnable. This remark underscores the persistent vulnerability narrative associated with India’s strategic “Chicken’s Neck” corridor. Historically, even internal elements within India have dangerously suggested severing this critical passageway to isolate the Northeast from the mainland physically. Therefore, it is imperative to develop more robust railway and road networks both underneath and around the Chicken’s Neck corridor. Additionally, exploring alternative road routes connecting the Northeast to mainland India, effectively bypassing the Chicken’s Neck, should be prioritized. Though this may pose significant engineering challenges, it is achievable with determination and innovation. Such provocative statements by Md Younis must not be taken lightly, as they reflect deeper strategic considerations and longstanding agendas.”
Yunus’ action amounted to Bangladesh acting like a vassal state of China, something that New Delhi will be watching closely.
