Centre Sanctions Over Rs 555 Crore for Sikkim’s GLOF Recovery and Reconstruction

During the ongoing financial year, the Centre has also released substantial disaster relief funds across multiple states.

Sikkim’s GLOF Recovery and Reconstruction: The Central Government has approved Rs. 555.70 crore for Sikkim’s recovery and reconstruction efforts following the devastating Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) that struck the Sikkim’s Teesta River basin in October 2023.

The funding, sanctioned by a High-Level Committee (HLC) led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to rebuild critical infrastructure and restore essential services in the disaster-affected areas.

During the ongoing financial year, the Centre has also released substantial disaster relief funds across multiple states. A total of Rs. 19,074.80 crore has been allocated to 28 states under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), while Rs. 3,229.35 crore has been disbursed to 16 states under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF).

Additionally, Rs. 5,160.76 crore has been sanctioned to 19 states under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), and Rs. 719.71 crore has been distributed to 8 states under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF).
