India is celebrating its 70th Republic Day today, the main function was organized at Rajpath in New Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind unfurled the Tricolour and took salute of the parade.

President Ram Nath Kovind unfurled the Tricolour and took salute of the parade. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was the Chief Guest at the parade this year.
The Republic Day Parade Ceremony commenced with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the nation in paying homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
This Republic day witnessed many firsts, starting from women officers leading men contingents to the display of M777 and K9 Vajra self-propelled guns.

The 70th Republic Day also witnessed four war veterans of the Subhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj, aged over 90-years, participated in the Republic Day parade.
The parade started from Vijay Chowk and proceeded towards the Red Fort grounds. Mobile hit teams, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters were also deployed to keep a watch on the 8km-long parade route from Rajpath to the Red Fort, and the nearby localities.
The overall theme of the Republic Day celebrations this year is the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. 22 tableaux, from 16 States and Union Territories and six Ministries and Departments depicted the life and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
Attended by world leaders and beamed across the nation of 1.25 billion, The Republic Day parade in New Delhi showcased India’s military might. The Indian Air Force displayed flypast with its fighter aircrafts in the skies over Rajpath.
