He said that regular appointments will only be made once MeECL’s financial situation improves.
Why has recruitment in Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) been delayed for so long? When will new appointments finally be made? These are the pressing questions that aspiring candidates and employees have been asking as vacancies continue to pile up.
Amid rising concerns, Meghalaya Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal on Wednesday attributed the ongoing delay in MeECL recruitment to the corporation’s dire financial condition.
Speaking after a meeting with a delegation from the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Minister Mondal emphasised that the state-owned power utility is struggling with a severe revenue shortfall and mounting operational expenses, which have significantly hindered new appointments.
He said that regular appointments will only be made once MeECL’s financial situation improves.
“As an organization, we also want all vacant positions to be filled. However, currently, we are having a lot of financial problems due to that we are not going ahead with the hiring process immediately. The regular appointment would be done as and when financial initiative is sound that has been priced to them, “said the Minister.
Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited Facing Financial Crisis:
Minister Abu Taher Mondal said that the MeECL has been grappling with financial distress for years, affecting not only recruitment but also the overall efficiency of power supply and maintenance services in the state.
The lack of staff has led to an increased workload on existing employees, raising concerns among various stakeholders about the long-term sustainability of the corporation’s operations.
The FKJGP said that there are around 130 sanctioned posts of Assistant Executive Engineer and Assistant Engineer and 125 sanctioned posts of Junior Engineer in the MePDCL.
While FKJGP and other organizations have repeatedly urged the government to address the crisis, Minister Mondal assured that the government is exploring ways to improve the corporation’s revenue generation and streamline expenses to facilitate fresh recruitment in the future.
With MeECL playing a crucial role in Meghalaya’s power sector, the delay in hiring continues to be a pressing issue, prompting calls for a concrete action plan to address the corporation’s financial woes and staffing crisis.
