Tripura CM Assures Kokborok Students Can Write CBSE Answers in Roman Script, Translators to Be Provided

Pradyot stated that such issues should not be politicized and that students should not be dragged into a 'language war.'

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has assured TIPRA Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma that Kokborok students will be allowed to write answers in Roman script in the Class 12 CBSE examination. CM Saha also promised that a translator would be present in every classroom in all exam centres to assist students.

This major development came after Pradyot Kishore Debbarma met Chief Minister Saha last evening and highlighted the challenges faced by Kokborok students. Pradyot informed the Chief Minister that invigilators in some schools had allegedly refused to translate the Kokborok question papers prepared in Bengali script. As a result, many students were forced to submit blank answer sheets because they could not understand the questions.

In a video message, Pradyot stated that such issues should not be politicized and that students should not be dragged into a ‘language war.’ He demanded an investigation into why the government’s previous assurance was not implemented and urged immediate action to ensure that students are not disadvantaged due to language barriers.

It may be noted that Pradyot Kishore Debbarma had earlier raised concerns about the difficulties faced by Kokborok students appearing for the CBSE Class 12 exams. He highlighted that the question papers were in Bengali script instead of English or Roman script, which created significant challenges for students unfamiliar with Bengali.
