In a matter of pride for Assam and the entire nation, Siddharth Baruah, a final-year engineering student at IIT Madras, is leading the software programming for the world’s longest Hyperloop rail project. The ground-breaking transportation system aims to cover 300 kilometers in just 30 minutes, reaching a top speed of 1,200 km/h.
Siddharth Baruah Makes Assam Proud
Siddharth Baruah is part of the Avishkar Hyperloop team at IIT Madras, which consists of 76 students working on developing the advanced transportation technology. His role in leading the software programming for the Hyperloop system has been described as crucial to the project’s success.
Siddharth’s parents expressed their pride and happiness over their son’s achievement. “We are extremely proud of Siddharth’s contribution to such a ground-breaking project. His hard work and dedication have paid off, and we hope to see India take the lead in high-speed transportation,” his father Satya Baruah said.
Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw visited the Hyperloop testing facility at IIT Madras on Saturday and praised the remarkable progress of the project. He announced that the 410-meter-long Hyperloop test tube at IIT Madras Discovery Campus is currently the longest Hyperloop testing facility in Asia and is set to become the longest in the world.
Vaishnaw expressed confidence that India will soon be ready for Hyperloop transportation, as the tests conducted so far have shown promising results. He highlighted that the entire testing system has been developed using indigenous technology and congratulated the young innovators for their achievements. He also stated that the electronics components for the project will be developed at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
Hyperloop is a proposed high-speed transportation system first suggested by Elon Musk in 2012. The technology involves moving passenger pods through a vacuum-sealed tube, which reduces air resistance and enables ultra-high speeds with minimal energy consumption. The Indian Hyperloop project aims to revolutionise transportation by offering faster, more efficient, and eco-friendly travel options.
Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on innovation for the progress made in the Hyperloop project. “PM Modi has always emphasises the importance of technological advancement. This project reflects India’s growing capability to lead in futuristic transportation technology,” the minister said.
During his visit, Vaishnaw witnessed a live demonstration of the Hyperloop system at the IIT Madras Discovery Campus. He assured that the Indian Railways will continue to provide financial and technical support to accelerate the development of the project.
The Avishkar Hyperloop team at IIT Madras has been working tirelessly to make Hyperloop transportation a reality in India. The team has already gained recognition at international Hyperloop competitions and is focused on refining the technology for large-scale deployment.
