In response, Amit Shah assured the NGO leaders that the central government considers Lengpui Airport a priority.
The NGO Coordination Committee, comprising office bearers from the Central Young Mizo Association (YMA), Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), and Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Raj Bhavan last night. During the meeting, the committee presented a list of critical issues, with a strong focus on improving the infrastructure at Lengpui Airport.
The delegation urged the Home Minister to allocate the necessary funds and resources to upgrade the airport, emphasising its importance for enhancing regional connectivity and boosting economic growth. They highlighted that improving Lengpui Airport would facilitate better transportation, increase tourism, and create new economic opportunities for Mizoram.
In response, Amit Shah assured the NGO leaders that the central government considers Lengpui Airport a priority. He confirmed that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) would take charge of the airport’s strengthening efforts. Shah further assured the committee that AAI would complete the essential upgrades within three months and begin the restructuring phase within six months.
The assurance from the Union Home Minister has raised hopes among the people of Mizoram, as the state has long struggled with inadequate air connectivity. Strengthening Lengpui Airport is expected to significantly improve travel convenience and support the state’s economic development.
