Arunachal Pradesh Becomes India’s First State to Launch Dedicated Horticulture Policy

With a strong emphasis on empowering women and youth, the policy integrates gender-inclusive budgeting and supports hortipreneurship.

In a landmark decision, the Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved India’s first dedicated Horticulture Policy, setting a new benchmark for sustainable and commercially driven horticulture.

The policy includes the Arunachal Kiwi Mission, aimed at making the state a leading kiwi producer, and the Arunachal Spice Mission, focusing on high-value spices like large cardamom, black pepper, and star anise.

Additionally, the Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (MAP) Mission will promote large-scale cultivation of medicinal plants for the AYUSH sector.

With a strong emphasis on empowering women and youth, the policy integrates gender-inclusive budgeting and supports hortipreneurship.

It also promotes sustainable and climate-resilient horticulture through integrated farming and eco-friendly practices.

Further, the policy focuses on infrastructure development, strengthening storage, processing, and marketing, while prioritising innovation and R&D to enhance productivity. This initiative positions Arunachal Pradesh as a leader in India’s horticulture sector.
