Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced that the Sikkim Art, Culture & Heritage Development Board will soon be fully functional, marking a significant step toward strengthening the artistic ecosystem in the state. He made this statement while attending the second edition of the Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan at Town Hall, Namchi, on Tuesday.
The event, dedicated to honouring Sikkim’s artists, celebrated their immense contributions in preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage. CM Tamang said that artists are more than just performers or creators; they are the cultural ambassadors of Sikkim, playing a crucial role in shaping and carrying forward the state’s artistic legacy.
As part of the initiative to support artists, the state government provided financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) to various individuals and institutions engaged in different art forms. The grant aims to offer financial security and encouragement to those who have dedicated their lives to the arts, including those running academies to nurture young talent.
CM Tamang expressed his commitment to uplifting the artistic community by ensuring that the soon-to-be-functional Sikkim Art, Culture & Heritage Development Board will provide artists with resources, platforms, and opportunities to enhance their craft. He congratulated senior artists, emerging talents, and award recipients for their outstanding dedication and passion.
The event featured mesmerising performances by guest artists, adding vibrancy to the celebration. CM Tamang also extended his heartfelt gratitude to the organizing committee for successfully hosting an event that not only celebrated artistic excellence but also reinforced the importance of supporting and recognising Sikkim’s artists.
