Over 2.4 Lakh D-Voter Cases Registered in Assam, 43,000 Identified as Foreigners

Under the Assam Accord, 30,115 foreigners have been pushed back, and 59 declared foreigners are currently lodged in detention centres.

The Assam Government’s Home Department has informed the Assam Legislative Assembly that as of 31 January 2025, a total of 1,65,992 individuals have been identified as foreigners under the Assam Accord.

According to official data, 2,44,144 D Voter cases have been registered in the Foreigners Tribunal, out of which 1,54,818 cases have been disposed of. Of these, 42,989 individuals were declared as foreigners.

Additionally, border police investigations led to the referral of 4,36,046 cases to the tribunal, with 3,48,014 cases disposed of, confirming 1,65,992 as foreigners.

Under the Assam Accord, 30,115 foreigners have been pushed back, and 59 declared foreigners are currently lodged in detention centres as of 31 January 2025.

Moreover, as of 24 February 2025, 258 individuals are lodged in transit camps. Among them, 30 foreigners have been repatriated, while 81 individuals, identified as Indian nationals by the High Court, have been released.

Following Supreme Court orders, 273 individuals have been granted bail for three years, and 527 have been freed on bail for two years. Meanwhile, the Election Department has reported that Assam currently has 1,18,134 D Voters.

The issue of foreigners and D Voters remains a significant concern in the state’s political and administrative landscape.
