In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old engineering student from Mizoram was stabbed to death by a fellow student from his home state in Nagaroor, Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala.
The deceased has been identified as Valentine VL Chhana.
The accused, identified as Lawmsangzuala, and the victim were both students of Rajadhani Institute of Engineering & Technology, Nagaroor.
The tragic incident unfolded late on Saturday night at a rented accommodation where Valentine and his friends were staying.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, eyewitness accounts said that Lawmsangzuala had joined Valentine and his friends that night after being expelled from his paying guest accommodation.
A heated altercation broke out around 10:45-11:00 PM between Lawmsangzuala and another group of friends, who were allegedly intoxicated at the time. Valentine, known for his calm demeanor, stepped in to diffuse the situation.
While initial reports suggested that Valentine had also been drinking, his friends clarified that he was sober during the incident. However, the argument escalated, and in a fit of rage, Lawmsangzuala stabbed Valentine with a knife.
Valentine was rushed to KIMS Hospital in Trivandrum but succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at 1:05 AM.
Authorities have taken Lawmsangzuala into custody, and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, the postmortem has been completed, and Valentine’s body was taken to the residence of Wilson Vanramhluna, Chairman of the Trivandrum Mizo Christian Fellowship, for a traditional Mizo farewell. It will then be transported to Aizawl before being taken to his native village, Pangzawl, for the final rites.
