Sarma stated that Australia had reviewed its travel restrictions and issued revised guidelines permitting travel across Assam
In some big news coming in just ahead of Advantage Assam 2.0, the mega infrastructure and investment summit to be held in Guwahati in Guwahati on February 25-26, Australia has lifted its travel advisory for Assam, allowing its citizens to visit most parts of the state, except Tinsukia, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and Sibsagar, where the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is in effect. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference, Sarma stated that Australia had reviewed its travel restrictions and issued revised guidelines permitting travel across Assam, barring the four districts under AFSPA.
CM Sarma said, “People from Australia can now explore almost the entire state, except for areas where AFSPA is still in force. The Australian High Commission has assured us that if AFSPA is withdrawn from these districts, they will further ease the travel restrictions.”
Australia, along with Germany, had previously issued travel advisories citing law and order concerns in Assam. With Australia’s updated guidelines, the state government is optimistic that Germany will follow suit and lift its advisory soon.
“We hope that Germany will also lift the travel restrictions soon,” he added.”
The Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit will see global presence with high-level delegations from Singapore, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Bhutan.
CM Sarma is also hopeful of Malaysia attending the Summit.
The state is expected to attract investments worth Rs 1 lakh crore with Advantage Assam 2.0. The summit will also see announcements of Rs 50,000 crore worth of investment projects from the Union government, CM Sarma said.
