Meghalaya to host 39th edition of National Games in 2027

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed his excitement, calling it a “huge honour” for the state.
Meghalaya will host the 39th edition of the National Games in February-March 2027, confirmed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha.
As the official host of the next edition, Meghalaya will be handed the IOA flag during the closing ceremony of the ongoing 38th National Games in Uttarakhand.
The ceremony is set to take place in Haldwani on Friday.
“I am pleased to inform you that the IOA has decided to allocate the hosting rights of the 39th National Games to the state of Meghalaya, scheduled to be held in February/March 2027,” PT Usha wrote in the letter to CM Conrad Sangma on Monday.
Reacting to the announcement, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed his excitement, calling it a “huge honour” for the state.

The 38th National Games, which began on January 28, is seeing the participation of 10,000 athletes and officials from 38 teams.
The event is being held across seven cities in Uttarakhand, with Dehradun as the main venue. Other host cities include Haridwar, Nainital, Haldwani, Rudrapur, Shivpuri, and New Tehri.
The previous edition of the National Games was held in Goa in 2023, where events took place across 5 cities.
Before that, the Games had last been held in Kerala in 2015, following a prolonged hiatus.
The current edition in Uttarakhand marks the third National Games in three years, signalling the revival of India’s premier multi-sport event. With Meghalaya set to host in 2027, the country will witness four editions of the Games in just five years.
