The Assam Police has apprehended a most wanted militant who was involved in the ambush of an army convoy in Manipur in 2021.

Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles Coloner Viplab Tripathi, his wife, son Abir as well as 4 riflemen had lost their lives in the dastardly attack.

The arrested militant is a cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

As per inputs, a joint team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Assam Police will be interrogating the arrested militant as part of the ongoing investigation into the 2021 ambush at Sehkan village in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

It may be mentioned that the NIA took over the case at the request of then Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The probe agency thereafter registered a case under several sections of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Reports suggest that during the probe the NIA found that at least 10 militants were involved in the attack.

It was on November 13, 2021 when Commanding Officer of 46th Battalion of Assam Rifles Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife, minor son and four troopers of the Assam Rifles lost their lives in the ambush. The convoy was attacked by insurgents near Sialsih village in Churachandpur district of Manipur. Six Assam Rifles personnel were also injured in the attack.
