The operation led to the recovery of four pistols (.32mm) – Russian, US, and Indian-made, 150 bullets (.32mm) and five magazines.

Acting on intelligence inputs, Customs officials in Tripura foiled an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition to Bangladesh, arresting a suspect linked to a trans-border syndicate along with four pistols.

As per inputs, the arrested man is a resident of Manipur and was traveling on train no. 05627 (Guwahati-Agartala Special) from Lumding to Agartala with a consignment of arms and ammunition.

Following an extensive operation, a team from the Teliamura Customs Preventive Force and Divisional Preventive Force, Agartala—led by the Deputy Commissioner, Customs Division, Agartala—successfully intercepted the suspect near BP No. 1963/11S in Shingicherra, Khowai, while he was attempting to smuggle the weapons across the India-Bangladesh border.

The operation led to the recovery of four pistols (.32mm) – Russian, US, and Indian-made, 150 bullets (.32mm) and five magazines.

A case has been registered under the Customs Act, 1962, and the accused was arrested.

He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Khowai, who remanded him to judicial custody.

Authorities believe the seized arms were part of a larger smuggling network operating across international borders. The investigation is ongoing to trace the syndicate’s links and prevent further such activities.
