The UNC warned that anyone found helping those putting up the fence will face ‘dire consequences’.

The United Naga Council (UNC) on Monday reiterated its strong opposition to Indo-Myanmar border fencing in Naga areas of Manipur and issued a fresh directive to the Nagas of the state to oppose the construction.

The UNC warned that anyone found helping those putting up the fence will face ‘dire consequences’.

In a statement, the UNC stated that it was constrained to issue this directive to the Naga population especially falling under the jurisdiction of Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) for strict compliance, that, no activities in regards to the purported construction of ‘border fencing’ along the imaginary artificial Indo-Mayanmar Border (IMB) will be allowed in the Naga ancestral homeland.
This was issued as a follow-up to the earlier directive dated October 29, 2024, and per resolution 2 from the Presidential Council Meeting held on November 7, 2024.

The UNC further urged the esteemed Units and Sub-ordinate Bodies of the Council of the impacted areas to initiate stringent steps to prevent the said activities at their respective jurisdiction in unison without fear and favor.

The council has also warned that any individual or organization collaborating with implementing agents for favors, or cooperating or assisting them will face dire consequences as per its established resolutions and stance.

Furthermore, the UNC has urged the Nagas of Manipur to remain resolute to fight against such sinister design of the colonial power to alienate the Nagas from their lands by the wild move of Govt of India by constructing walls and fencing along the imaginary Indo- Myanmar borders.

It has also advised the Nagas to stay prepared for any eventualities.
