Historic: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to Attend R-Day Celebrations in Dibrugarh Instead of Guwahati

The 76th Republic Day ceremonial programme will be held at Khanikar Ground tomorrow , marking a significant milestone for the town.

This Republic Day history will be created in Assam as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be hoisting the national flag not in Guwahati but in Dibrugarh. This is the first time that a Chief Minister will participate in the Republic Day celebrations in the upper Assam district.

The 76th Republic Day ceremonial programme will be held at Khanikar Ground tomorrow , marking a significant milestone for the town.

Dibrugarh is hosting the Central Republic Day celebrations for the first time, and the town is adorned with the tricolour. “From being affected by militancy to now hosting full-scale Republic Day celebrations, it has come a long way,” the Chief Minister noted on X, expressing pride in the transformation.

Following the celebrations, Sarma will attend a review meeting in the Naharkatia Co-District. In the evening, he will visit Paltan Bazar Rajahuwa Namghar for the Bhagavad Path, lay foundation stones for four flyover projects at Mancotta Road, and participate in the 3rd Tai Ethnic Cultural Festival, 2025, at Langi Gadapani Khetra.

On January 27, the Chief Minister will oversee developments in the Jonai Co-District of Dhemaji and attend the Lokarpan ceremony of Aanandalaya Bhawan at Vivekananda Kendra in Dibrugarh.
