He was selected for this honour because he benefitted from the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Scheme, which helps households install solar power.

Pramod Saikia, a resident of Baruapara in Mangaldai, Darrang district, Assam, has been invited to attend this year’s Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi as a Special Guest. He was selected for this honour because he benefitted from the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Scheme, which helps households install solar power systems.

Under the scheme, rooftop solar panels were installed at Saikia’s home, which has brought a huge change in his electricity bills. Earlier, he used to pay around Rs. 2,500 per month, but now his electricity bill is only Rs. 290.

The Prime Minister Surya Ghar Scheme is a central government initiative aimed at promoting the use of solar energy. It plans to provide free electricity to one crore households across the country by encouraging people to install solar power systems on their rooftops. Saikia’s story is an example of how the scheme is helping people save money while using clean energy.
