Sikkim Reports 4 Suicides in 24 Hours

Rangpo Police Station reported two separate cases of unnatural deaths in the same day
Sikkim reported 4 cases of suicide in 24 hours on January 22.
Uttarey Police Station registered a case of suicide after a 33-year-old man, Binay Kishore Rai, was found dead in his home at Upper Mukrung, Uttaarey.
The FIR, filed by his relative Meena Kumari Rai, stated that Binay committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope inside his house. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the body has been sent to District Hospital Gyalshing for autopsy. The case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
The Rangpo Police Station reported two separate cases of unnatural deaths. In the first incident, a 51-year-old man, Kharga Bahadur Limboo, was found dead in the bathroom of his residence at Mining near FCI, Rangpo. The FIR, filed by his cousin Mani Kumar Subba, stated that Kharga committed suicide by hanging. The police have conducted an inquest in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rangpo and two independent witnesses, and the body was sent to District Hospital Singtam for autopsy. The case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2023.
In the second incident reported at Rangpo Police Station, a 20-year-old student jumped from the fourth floor of her hostel at SMIT, Majhitar. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was declared brought dead. The FIR, filed by D.B. Chhetri, Head of Administration, SMIT, stated that Puspita fell from the hostel building. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. The case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2023.
Rhenock Police Station also reported a case of unnatural death after a 38-year-old man, Ravi Rai, who had been missing since October 25, 2024, was found dead in a cliff at Hatticheray, Rhenock. The FIR, filed by his brother Atul Rai, stated that Ravi’s body was seen hanging from the cliff. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the NDRF team has been requested to assist in retrieving the body. The case has been registered under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2023.
