Guwahati is drawing international attention with its unique mix of natural beauty, cultural richness, and modern infrastructure.
Guwahati has been recognised as India’s fastest-growing destination for international travellers, according to Agoda’s New Horizons ranking.
As the gateway to Northeast India, Guwahati is drawing international attention with its unique mix of natural beauty, cultural richness, and modern infrastructure. Highlights like the Kaziranga connection, river cruises on the Brahmaputra, and nearby wildlife sanctuaries are key attractions. The city’s enhanced air connectivity has further boosted its appeal as a travel hub.
The broader Northeast region has also seen a surge in tourism interest due to its vibrant festivals and events. Iconic celebrations like the Hornbill Festival, Ziro Music Festival, and Shillong’s Cherry Blossom Festival showcase cultural diversity and world-class performances. Renowned artists such as Akon, Clean Bandit, and Lucas have headlined these events.
Major concerts, including Diljit Dosanjh in Guwahati and Bryan Adams in Shillong in 2024, have further elevated the region’s profile.
Notably, Ed Sheeran is set to perform in Shillong on February 12, 2025, cementing Northeast India’s status as a prime destination for international travellers and music enthusiasts alike.
The annual report, which analyses booking trends over two years, highlighted Puri as the top destination for domestic travel and Langkawi, Malaysia, as the leading choice for Indian travellers venturing abroad.
