Meghalaya Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang confirmed the submission and review of the report by the Ministry of Education.
In a significant development regarding the ongoing crisis at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Meghalaya, a two-member inquiry committee appointed by the Ministry of Education has submitted its report. The committee was tasked with investigating allegations of mismanagement and administrative failures against the incumbent NEHU Vice-Chancellor.
Meghalaya Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang confirmed the submission and review of the report by the Ministry of Education.
However, he noted that the Ministry’s decisions based on the findings have not yet been communicated to the state government.
Wahlang clarified that as NEHU is a central university, its internal affairs are outside the purview of the state government. He further stated that he has maintained regular contact with officials from the Government of India, including the Additional Secretary and Secretary of Higher Education. Wahlang is scheduled to meet with the recently appointed Secretary on January 13 to provide an update on the situation.
Expressing optimism, Wahlang voiced hopes for a resolution to the NEHU crisis shortly, following further discussions with central authorities but the big question is will the NEHU students accept the committee’s findings and suggestions.
